MINDFUL MONDAYS: FAQ
With our first London meditation class now underway I thought it would be a good time to put down in writing some answers to the most frequently asked questions. Here we go:
WHO IS THIS MEDITATION CLASS FOR?
The class is open to all adults and may be particularly suited to professionals working in the area.
WHAT TYPE OF MEDITATION IS PRACTICED IN THIS CLASS?
The classes offer a simple and practical approach to meditation based on the principles of mindfulness and presence.
DON’T I HAVE TO BE RELIGIOUS OR AT LEAST SPIRITUAL TO MEDITATE?
Not at all. The class is non-religious, non-denominational. All you need to be is human.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A TYPICAL CLASS?
The teacher will begin the class with a short introduction and a little teaching on mindfulness or presence. Each class will have a slightly different focus. There will then be 2 guided meditations led by the teacher and finally a shorter silent meditation. There will be time to stretch, ask questions and give feedback between exercises.
DO I HAVE TO SIT ON THE FLOOR?
No. You can either choose to meditate on a chair or on the floor. Meditation blocks are provided for those who wish to sit on the floor.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING/WEAR?
No need to bring anything although some people might wish to bring their own meditation block, cushion or blanket if you have one. Wear something that you will be comfortable sitting in during the class. No problem if you come straight from work in your work clothing. If you do wish to change at the venue you can do so in the bathrooms on the lower floor.
WHAT IF I CAN ONLY COME EVERY NOW AND THEN?
No problem at all. The class is designed as a drop-in class rather than an ongoing course. Each class is self-contained. No need to attend every week. Come to as many or as few as you like. Treat the class as an oasis of calm in your week. Come when you feel the need.
WHO WILL BE TEACHING THE CLASS?
Neil Seligman will be the principle teacher for the class. On rare occasions when Neil cannot attend, a guest teacher will stand in.
I ALREADY MEDITATE BY MYSELF WHY BOTHER WITH A CLASS?
Many experienced meditators find that meditating in a group is particularly beneficial. The group energy can really enhance the depth of experience available to you. You may also learn some new meditation techniques and ideas. Meeting like-minded people is an added bonus!
WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
No need to sign up. Simply come along to the Law Society on a Monday evening and join us.
